I REALLY hope these get dubbed and make it over here somehow Sad I wouldn't mind them delaying the release of season 2 to include these OVAs.

Agreed. I always felt this was one of the most underrated anime.

Having read the available source material there is a lot more potential there, although the story tends to get a bit too heavy at times. So I am not sure I would want to see more seasons.

This series deserved a season 3. I have no idea how they're cramming the past arc into 2 OVAs seeing as that arc was the most important in the entire series. Here's hoping they change their minds and go back and make season 3 a thing, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't think it was too dark though? It was already all HEAVILY foreshadowed back in season 1 with the whole "dragon king's eye" thing, so it doesn't really get too much worse. People die, sure, but you could always have that happen off-screen.
