Tomitake is the main character? from what I remembered from the anime was that Keiichi was the protagonist and then the focus got shifted to Rika in season 2 and Tomitake was a side character.

I'm also confused by this. I remember seeing the original movie in theaters when in Japan. This will interesting.

Clearly ANN's mistake, Cinra states Keiichi as the main role

Unless they're massively changing the story, Tomitake cannot be the main character, because spoiler[one of the rules is that he has to die, and Miyo has to go missing on the night of the Watanagashi Festival]. Considering that the bulk of the story spoiler[occurs after this event], it's not possible.

The only way it would work would be that he's the POV character, but, even then, we run into problems spoiler[after Watanagash].

"Rules?" I think you're confusing this for another series. If they were adapting based on spoiler[the final two arcs, where Tomitake was not only a prominent POV character but survived until the end], it would make perfect sense.

I think there's only so many times you can redo the question arcs.

Oh, I'm familiar with those rules. Your earlier post seemed to use the existence of that rule to mean spoiler[Tomitake can't possibly survive past Watanagashi], but it actually means spoiler[ensuring Tomitake survives past Watanagashi is the way to ensure nobody succumbs to Hinamizawa Syndrome]. This is Rika we're talking about.

But the more likely explanation than an adaptation of Matsuribayashi (or similar arcs) is that ANN misread the news clip. Maebara Keiichi is still labeled as the main character according to the linked sources.
