Anime Expo 2003
Pioneer Entertainment

by Mikhail Koulikov,
Representatives: Henry Goto, Steven Tong, Horoi Tsukamoto

Pioneer's double-length panel began with a special Q&A session hosted by Mr. Yoshitoshi ABe and Mr. Yasuyuki Ueda. They humorously discussed topics such as their favorite foods, drinks, and computers (Both use G4s), and explained how they perceived the protagonists of their series (Serial Experiments Lain, Texhnolyze, NieA_7, Haibane Renmei)

Following the short session by ABe and Ueda, Henry Goto and Steven Tong took the reigns of the panel to discuss their latest acquisitions:

Texhnolyze
Gungrave
Samurai Champloo
R.O.D -The TV-

Gungrave, based on the PS2 videogame, is produced by Mad House and directed by Yoshitoshi Nightow of Trigun fame, while Samurai Champloo is the newest project of Shinichiro Watanabe, director of Cowboy Bebop. Texhnolyze will be released some time in 2004; no information is currently available on the release schedule of any of the other three titles mentioned.

Although Pioneer holds the licenses to both Mahoromatic and Chobits, it does NOT currently have either the two Mahoromatic Year-End Specials or the Chobits Special. Pioneer also stated that they currently do not hold the rights to the third Tenchi Muyo! OVA series. If Pioneer does acquire it, however, the presumption is that the original Tenchi Muyo! voice actors will be called back to provide the voices.

Of interest, this was the first time in the Pioneer's history that company VP, Hideki "Henry" Goto, hosted the company's panel at a convention.
