King of Prism by PrettyRhythm Adds 4DX Screenings in 26 Theaters in June

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The staff of the KING OF PRISM by PrettyRhythm anime film announced last Friday that the film's theatrical run will add immersive 4DX screenings nationwide. 26 theaters will begin screening the film on 4DX on June 18, with more theaters planned. The film has been playing in theaters since opening on January 9.

With the 4DX or MX4D systems, certain theaters have motion seats that move in sync with certain action sequences onscreen. Similarly, effects such as scents, wind, and mist will operate in accordance with the action onscreen. The second Attack on Titan compilation film, the live-action Attack on Titan films, and the Girls und Panzer film all used the same or similar technology in special screenings of the films alongside the conventional screenings, and the upcoming One Piece Film Gold will also get a similar screening. The upcoming MX4D Kagerou Daze -in a days- film is the first "short movie" in Japan to be produced exclusively with MX4D presentation in mind.

The KING OF PRISM by PrettyRhythm film began its theatrical run in 14 theaters on January 9, and went down to nine theaters in its second week. However, as word of mouth grew (particularly on social networking services), its screenings expanded to over 60 theaters. The film topped 300 million yen (US$2.2 million) as of March 15, and topped 500 million yen (about US$4.59 million) and 300,000 tickets sold as of April 18.

The main cast includes:

Tetsuya Kakihara as Kōji Mihama
Tomoaki Maeno as Hiro Hayami
Toshiki Masuda as Kazuki Nishina
Junta Terashima as Shin Ichijō
Sōma Saitō as Yukinojō Tachibana
Tasuku Hatanaka as Taiga Kōgami
Taku Yashiro as Kakeru Jūōin
Masashi Igarashi as Minato Takahashi
Takuma Nagatsuka as Leo Saionji
Yūma Uchida as Yū Suzuno
Shōta Aoi as Rui Kisaragi
Takeuchi as Alexander Yamato
Shinichirō Miki as Jin Norizuki
Daisuke Namikawa as Kanrinin

Showtaro Morikubo and Toshihiko Seki also play characters in the film.

The film's announcement described its story:

The unit Over The Rainbow succeeds in its debut. Aiming to become like the boy band, more students enroll in Edel Rose. Hiro and the others begin practice for the Prism King Cup, an event that is held once every four years. However, a rival called "Schwarz Rose" appears... Who will become the Prism King, the one who can make girls' hearts throb the most!?

The film's DVD and Blu-ray Disc home video release is slated for June 17 in both a first-print limited edition and a standard edition. Video extras include a new short anime, a collection of the teasers and promotional videos, footage of the opening-day stage greetings, and the footage shown in theaters before the film.

Masakazu Hishida (various Pretty Rhythm TV anime series) directed the film at Tatsunoko Production with a script by Jou Aoba (Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream storyboard). Yoshihiro Otobe (Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live) is the CG director, and Mai Matsuura (Pretty Rhythm All Star Selection) is credited with the original character plan and design. TAKARA TOMY A.R.T.S and syn Sophia are credited with the original work, and Avex Pictures is distributing the film.
