1st Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection Film Opens on July 22 in Japan

posted on by Karen Ressler

The official website for the Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection anime film project announced on Thursday that the first film will open in 90 Japanese theaters on July 22. The project is planned as two films. The second film's release date has not yet been announced.

Yukari Tamura, Nana Mizuki, and Kana Ueda are reprising their roles as Nanoha Takamachi, Fate T. Harlaown, and Hayate Yagami, respectively. Haruka Tomatsu will voice Amitie Florian, and Satomi Satou will voice Kirie Florian.

Masaki Tsuzuki, the franchise creator and scriptwriter, is credited with the original work, and is also penning the script. Takayuki Hamana (The Prince of Tennis, Library War, Appleseed XIII) is directing the film at Seven Arcs Pictures. Kana Hashidate (Dog Days) is drawing the character designs, and Shochiku is distributing the film.

Tsuzuki stated in an interview with Gakken's Megami Magazine that the story will be completely new, and will take place three months after Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha the Movie 2nd A's, when Nanoha and the other characters are in the summer of their fifth grade. The events of the story begin when certain incidents begin occurring in Uminari City, as well as in the area around Tokyo, and so Nanoha and the others investigate. The story will feature other new characters besides Amitie and Kirie. The characters' Barrier Jacket costume will also have a completely new design.
