Final Fantasy XV Sells 1 Million Physical Copies in Japan

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Kadokawa's Dengeki Online website revealed last week that Square Enix's Final Fantasy XV game has sold an estimated 1,000,712 copies in Japan as of September 3. The number does not include digital download purchases.

Final Fantasy XV went on sale worldwide for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One last November.

Square Enix is developing a Windows PC version of Final Fantasy XV, as well as a smartphone and PC game titled Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition. Tabata previously teased content for the Nintendo Switch earlier during the Gamescom 2017 event in August.

Square Enix released the "Episode Prompto" story DLC for the game on June 27. The new story episode is the second in a series of story episodes focusing on each of the main characters of Final Fantasy XV. An episode focused on Ignis is slated for December. Square Enix released the "Episode Gladiolus" story episode on March 28. An upcoming "Comrades" expansion will add multiplayer to the game. Additionally, an update for the game in August included a bestiary and a chapter select option.

The game's director Hajime Tabata stated that the game broke even with development costs on "day one." As of January 10, the game had sold more than 6 million copies worldwide. The number includes physical shipments and download sales.
