In an interview with game news website Famitsu posted on Thursday, Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura spoke about trouble his team faced due to illegally obtained ROMS overseas. He mentioned that he is reconsidering future worldwide simultaneous relationships as a result of the leak.
"After this incident I can't help but reconsider things like simultaneous worldwide releases, at least for physical editions, of games I work on from here on out," he told Famitsu. "The risk of simultaneous worldwide releases is high."
Nomura said that the leak seamed large because the leaked copies were spread out, but actually only four copies made it out, all from the same place. He said he was mainly disappointed beceause the leak would make fans who were looking forward to the game sad.
Square Enix is releasing the game on Friday in Japan for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on January 29 in the West.
