Golion and Dairugger XV never had a mecha team up. The Voltron Special "Fleet of Doom" was made specifically for the US.

The basic concept of Dairugger XV comes from the sport rugby. The name Dairugger is derived from the word rugby, and the number 15 signifies the number of players needed to form a rugby team.

Members of the Galveston Empire are named after various historical figures and locations. Galveston is named after Galveston Island, Texas, which was a base for piracy and slave smuggling during the early 1800s. Teles is named after the Greek philosopher Teles of Megara. Socrat Tes is derived from the Greek philosopher Socrates. Drake is named after Sir Francis Drake, the English privateer who carried out the second circumnavigation of Earth in a single expedition. Roche is named after Roche Braziliano, a Dutch buccaneer who operated in Brazil and Jamaica during the 17th century. Lafitte is named after Jean Lafitte, A French privateer who lived a life of piracy and spying in North America during the early 19th century. Barataria is named after Barataria Bay, Louisiana, which had a history of pirating and smuggling by Jean Lafitte. Marius is named after Simon Marius, the German astronomer who discovered the four major moons of Jupiter. Emperor Corsair gets his name from corsair, another word for pirate, buccaneer, or privateer.

In episode 12, when the Battle Machine emerges from the city ruins, it emits a roar similar to that of Godzilla.
