Ghastly Prince Enma Burning Up (TV)

In the original 1973 manga of Dororon Enma-kun, the main human character who helped the Demon Patrol was Tsutomu (Harumi's classmate). Tsutomu only plays a secondary role in this anime.

In episode 3, the ending song, “Jidai”, used for that episode was a cover for another song with the same name that was used as the opening for the 2001 anime “Cosmo Warrior Zero”.

In episode 4, at about 12:49, the character “Stay Puft Marshmallow Man” from the 1984 science fiction movie “Ghostbusters” appears in the abandoned factory.

In episode 4, at about 16:55, Enma transforms into a mecha parody of Mazinger; a famous super robot from the 1972 manga “Mazinger Z” that was created by Gou Nagai who also created the Dororon Enma-kun series.

In episode 5, at about 02:10, Harumi utters the name “Maaya” when a swarm of bees flies into the classroom. Maaya is not the Japanese word for bee / wasp (that would be Hachi, 蜂). Maaya is the name of the main character in the 1975 anime “Mitsbachi Maaya no Bouken” (みつばちマーヤの冒険) who happens to be a honey bee. This was a popular anime amongst school children in the 1970s which also happens to be the era in which the events of Dororon Enma-kun take place.

In episode 6, the Black Monolith leaving Jupiter is a reference to the 1984 film 2010: The Year We Make Contact.

In episode 8, at about 00:24, Enma, Yukiko hime, Shappojii and Kapaero pose as Atom, his sister Uranium, Pluto and Professor Ochanomizu respectively from the 1963 anime Tetsuwan Atom.

In episode 10, at about 13:47, Enma, Yukiko hime, Shappojii and Kapaero pose as characters from the 1965 British science fiction TV series Thunderbirds.

In episode 12, the racing scene at the start of the episode is a reference to the Hanna Barbera cartoon Wacky Races, which is quite popular in Japan.

In episode 12, two of the characters on heaven's side were Kekko Kamen and Susa no Jou. Kekko Kamen (けっこう仮面) was the main character from a 1974 manga by the same name created by Gou Nagai. Susa no Jou (凄ノ女王) is a female parody version of the main character in the 1979 manga Susa no Ou (凄ノ王) also created by Gou Nagai. Gou Nagai is also the creator of the Dororon Enma-kun manga.

The character of Enpi chan who is portrayed as Enma's sister in the anime was actually created by Gou Nagai in 2001 in the manga Dororon Enma-chan and was portrayed as Enma's niece. She was accompanied by Yuki-hige (a male version of Yukiko Hime) and Kapako (a female version of Kapaero), both of which appear with Enpi chan in episode 12 at about 23:58.
