Trivia:

Little Ikkyu-san is based on the real life Zen Buddhist monk and waka poet Ikkyu, who lived from 1394 to 1481. Ikkyu's mother was thrown out of the court of a retired emperor, Ikkyu's father, when Ikkyu was born. He began living at Ankokuji Temple, training to be a monk, when he was 5, the period of his life this show is based on. The real Ikkyu was known for being playful and a rascal as a child and eccentric as an adult, even when reaching enlightenment.
