Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade (movie)

The story of Jin-Roh was set in an alternate universe, where Japan lost World War II to Nazi Germany and was occupied. All weapons used by police forces are German: MG-42 machine guns, MP-40 submachine guns, MP-44 (also known as StG. 44) assault rifles, Mauser C-96 and Luger Parabellum pistols, along with German-styled helmets. On the other hand, terrorist weapons are mixture of British and Russian weapons, e.g. Sten and PPSch-41.

Denied a possibility of being nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Film, due to having previously been released on home video.

The Jin-Roh story line draws on versions of the Little Red Riding Hood tale that predate its retelling by the brothers Grimm. In some older traditions, the girl is simply devoured and not saved.

In the 1960s, Japan experienced traumatic clashes between left-wing political groups and authorities determined to suppress them. In that context, the nickname "red riding hoods" for the anti-government weapons couriers makes a more contemporary reference to the political insignia of communism.

Jin-Roh is heavily influenced by the traditional folk tale Little Red Riding Hood (also Little Red Cap and The False Grandmother) passed down since at least the 1400s, eventually recorded by the Brothers Grimm in the 1800s where it is popularly known from today.
