Trivia:

Kunihiko Yuyama, the director, went to Germany to view castles for a reference for the movie's setting.

At the end of the "Story" bit on the official movie website, the very last line says "When you see this movie... think of someone very important to you". This appears to touch on the theme of the movie.

The Mew in this movie is NOT the same Mew that appears in the first film, Mewtwo Strikes Back.

This is the first time Pikachu has been kidnapped in the movies since the first movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back

During the end credits, Kid visits Forina and sees Diane and Butler from Movie 6 - Jirachi Wish Maker.

This was the second-highest grossing film in Japan in 2005, at 4.3 billion yen (about $36.4 million). It was only beaten by Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle.

Kid's voice actress in Japan, Becky, is the same voice actress for Hitomi in the Deoxys movie(Rebecca in the dub version). Brock, naturally, says goodbye to her the exact same way.

The castle seen in the film is based off of the Neuschwanstein, which is in Bavaria, Germany.

in the diamond and pearl games, there is a trainer in the iron cave who looks like sir aaron, the only difference is his clothing, his only pokemon when you first meet him is a lucario and when you finish helping him he gives you an egg that hatches into a riolu the pre-evolved form of lucario.
