In an interview, character designer Masami Obari said that his deal to work with SNK on the anime included a free Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System and the Fatal Fury game. In addition, he claimed no copyright on any aspect of the anime—except for Terry's chrome-plated hat.

Masaaki Satake, who voices Joe Higashi in this special, is a well-known kickboxer in Japan.
