Trivia:

Before the classic anime TV series was produced, The Rose of Versailles was first adapted on stage on September 1974 by Takarazuka (an all-female musical company). The first generation stage play ran from 1974 to 1980. The second generation ran from 1989 to 1991 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. A third generation, played on 2001, paid tribute to the new millennium.

In 1978, a live-action adaptation of The Rose of Versailles was released. Titled Lady Oscar, the film was produced entirely in France with a French production team and an English-speaking cast. Unfortunately, Lady Oscar has been highly regarded as a bitter disappointment by many fans of the manga.
