Based on the Manga by Mitsuru Adachi, SLOW STEP is unique in the UK - the first Anime video release in the high school romance genre, who no science fiction or fantasy elements in the story of a teenager's development towards maturity and love. Minatsu is pretty popular high school softball ace and, like all normal teenage girls, isn't yet ready to tie herself down to just one boy! But how to avoid hurting their feelings? Easy - go out with both, but let them think they're going out with the two different girls! So Minatsu becomes Maria, with the help of glasses and a fake ponytail. And for a while, it works! But the deception becomes harder and harder to keep up, and she's no nearer to deciding which boy she prefers... A snappy opening theme with a stylish credit sequence mixing abstract and realistic scenes starts each episode on a high note. It isn't long before we accept the conventions of Adachi's stylized, romantic character drawing and become absorbed in the everyday lives of Minatsu and her friends. The script develops naturally and there are some very well handled sporting sequences.
