Rose of Versailles Garden Opens in Tokyo's Swanky Ginza District

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Riyoko Ikeda's The Rose of Versailles manga is inspiring a rose garden in Ginza, an upscale shopping district in Tokyo. The "scent of roses and The Rose of Versailles" will be the theme of the "Autumn Rose Garden 2016" event.

The garden will open in the Royal Room on the 10th floor of the FANCL Ginza Square building from October 28 to November 4. Chiba's Keisei Rose Garden is collaborating with the manga-inspired garden, which will bloom in the terrace at the top of the building.

Satoshi Murakami, host of the NHK television program Shumi no Engei (Hobby Gardening), will appear with Ikeda at the event on October 28. The pair will discuss roses at a special talk show.

Rose lovers can also enjoy a rose arranging demonstration on October 30. A mini concert by "rose pianist" Aki Suitō will be held on November 3.

Hungry flower enthusiasts can go to the ninth floor for a rose-themed dinner at the Dorobushi restaurant. A daintier drink corner featuring gelato and drinks with rose petal arrangements will be available on the eighth floor. Who knows? The manga's characters might even stop in for a bite while incognito in trendy modern clothes.

The Rose of Versailles manga is slated for publication in English in omnibus volumes this year. The series received a Valentine's Day promotion at a Shibuya shopping center in February.
