Unicorn Gundam Statue's VR Experience Debuted on Sunday

The life-size statue of the Unicorn Gundam mobile suit from the Mobile Suit Gundam UC anime formally debuted on Tokyo's Odaiba island on Sunday. Although the statue just debuted, it is already inspiring a virtual-reality experience this fall.

The experience, titled "Gundam Unicorn VR Gekitotsu Daiba Jōkū," features Unicorn Gundam. Participants experience a sky battle between Full Frontal in the MSN-06S Sinanju mobile suit and the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam.

Bandai Namco Entertainment will also release a "Mobile Suit Gundam Senjō no Kizuna VR Prototype Ver." (Mobile Suit Gundam: Battlefield Bonds VR Prototype Ver.) VR demo experience this fall. The demo will be available for a limited time and feature a cockpit-like setup with a domed screen for players to battle against each other in teams of four.

Both expereriences will debut at Bandai Namco Entertainment's VR Zone Shinjuku game center, which opened in Tokyo on July 14. The "Gundam Unicorn VR Gekitotsu Daiba Jōkū" experience debuted on Sunday, an the "Mobile Suit Gundam Senjō no Kizuna VR Prototype Ver." demo will debut on November 10.

The VR Zone Shinjuku center has 15 activities, including VR experiences for Dragon Ball, Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell Arise, and Mario Kart. Bandai Namco Entertainment boasts that the center is the biggest Virtual Reality game center in Japan.

Bandai Namco Entertainment plans to open a selection of VR activities in 20 locations around the world, with London being the first location. The company is considering opening in such locations as Singapore, Dubai, and New York.

Sunrise President Yasuo Miyakawa revealed at a special ceremony for the Unicorn Gundam statue on Saturday that a new Gundam Unicorn project will be unveiled next spring.
