Upcoming Bandai Releases

Bandai announced today the new Anime series it will be releasing in the second half of this year, and in 2001.

“Jubei-Chan the Ninja Girl – Secret of the Lovely eyepatch”, “Tenamonya Voyagers”, “Crest of the Stars” (Seikai No Monsho), “Angel Links”, “Betterman”, and “Fancy Lala”.

Jubei-Chan the Ninja Girl – Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch

It is said that whoever obtains the “Lovely Eyepatch” will inherit the swordsmanship and skills of one of Japan's greatest swordsman, Jubei Yagyu. Enter Jiyu Nanohana, an ordinary eighth grade girl who just happens to meet the special “requirements” of the eyepatch. But dealing with lovesick classmates and dueling teachers, will the overly sweet and innocent Jiyu accept the responsibilities of being the successor to Jubei? What's a girl to do?

This 13 episode TV series was distributed in Japan on 4 DVDs, The first of which contained 4 30 minute episodes, the remaining three had three episodes eahc (all 30 minute episodes).

Tenamonya Voyagers

Three young women are trying to return to Earth from the far-reaches of outer space. Ayako Hanabishi is a newly-graduated teacher who is out of a job. Wakana Nanamiya is a student whose school has closed. They are joined by the mysterious Paraila. They hitch rides, gamble, lie, cheat, and steal--well, one of them does anyway. But they all seem to land in hot water together! From the writer of Tenchi Muyo!

Produced by Studio Pierrot (Fushigi Yugi, Kimagura Orange Road) and Bandai Visual this OVA series is a tribute to Japanese comedies of the 1970s. The series concists of four half hour episodes. This is to be ther first DVD only release of ANime in the United States, there will be no VHS release! No news as to how many DVDs the series will be split up onto.

Crest of the Stars (Seikai No Monsho)

This 13 episode TV series is based on the sci-fi novel (not manga) by Morioka Hiroyuki and is directed by Nagaoka Yasuchika.

This 13 episode TV mini series is a spinoff of Outlaw Star, however you will not see Gene Starwind and his gang in Angel Links. Angel Links is from Bandai Visual and was directed by Yuji Yamaguchi. Angel Links was reviewed in Animerica Volume 7 #7 and by EX.

Betterman

In the year 2006, a mysterious illness has suddenly killed several people, cause of death…unknown. However, a dream ushers in a new chapter into the lives of two high school students, as demonic creatures rampages throughout the city. As these attacks continues, a mysterious young man appears with the ability to transform himself into a ferocious creature. Why do they call him Betterman?

Betterman is a pretty long series at 26 episodes of 50 minutes each. Created by Studio 7 (GaoGaiGar), a division of Sunrise, and was directed by Yoshimoto Yonetani (GaoGaiGar, Warau Salesman), mecha designs are by Ohgawara Kunio (Gundam Series.) Btterman is concidered to be the first of a new type of Anime, Biohorror.

Fancy Lala

Miho is an ordinary 9 year old girl with big dreams. Like most young girls,

powers, ordinary 9 year old Miho, turns herself into, the charming 15 year
old Lala…thus making her show biz debut! Her dreams have finally come true!

Originally called "Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala" or "Magical Stage Fancy Lala" this shoujo series concists of 26 half hour episodes. Fancy Lala is what is called Mahou Shoujo or Magical Girl Anime where the main character is given magical powers, Creamy Mami is another example of Mahou Shojo.
