New Robotech games are coming, according to E3 news from TDK Mediactive!

TDK Mediactive announced at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) that they would be creating a new video game based on Robotech. No details have yet to be announced regarding the games, what platforms they will run on, when they will be released or how many games will be made.

Excerpts from the press release:

TDK Mediactive, Inc. (OTC: TDKM.OB), a global publisher of entertainment software, announced on May 17th a licensing agreement with Mattel, Inc. (NYSE: MAT), the worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of toy products, for Robotech, one of the most recognized animated television series. Under the terms of the agreement, TDK, as sub licensee under Mattel's license with Harmony Gold, Inc., has been granted exclusive rights to develop and publish games featuring Harmony Gold's Robotech brand for personal computers, current and next-generation videogame and handheld systems.

TDK Mediactive has retained the services of game developer, Vicious Cycle Software, to develop an advanced 3D game engine tailored for the Robotech series of video games. TDK will create and publish next-generation games that will appeal to the core Robotech audience and take advantage of each platform's unique abilities.

First aired in 1985, Robotech is the popular animated television series that fuses giant transforming robots and compelling sci-fi narratives. After 16 years, Robotech retains formidable global fan support and continues to broadcast in numerous countries worldwide. TDK's first Robotech title is scheduled to ship in 2002.

"Robotech is a veritable sci-fi icon with an incredibly strong following," said Vincent Bitetti, chief executive officer of TDK Mediactive. "Our upcoming games will capture the dramatic storyline, art direction and amazing battle sequences that characterize the Robotech universe."

"We are extremely pleased to be working closely with a publisher of TDK's calibre and expertise in developing quality entertainment software featuring the Robotech brand," said Amy Boylan, senior vice president of New Media at Mattel, Inc.
