New Convention: Anime Reactor

'Anime Reactor', a fan-made, fan-run convention, is opening its doors for an October 2003 premiere convention.. and they already have a Japanese Guest of Honor -- Kia Asamiya!
Anime Reactor (AnimeReactor.org) may be one of the first anime-based conventions to reach out and greet American comics and comic artists, as well as Japanese individuals. Anime Reactor aims to be a meeting place, where fanartists and professionals can both meet and share new ideas from both sides of the Pacific.
Additionally, AnimeReactor has already confirmed one Japanese Guest of Honor -- Kia Asamiya. Best known for Silent Mobius and Steam Detectives, Kia Asamiya is one of the most widely read manga artists in America. His most recent work was the manga adaptation of Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace.
Anime Reactor will occur October 24th-26th, 2003, at the Holiday Inn-O'Hare at Rosemont, IL.

Enter Anime Reactor, the newest fan-based anime convention, created to primarily promote understanding and education of these two cultures to provide both fan groups the opportunity to explore similarities and influences.
“We are excited about bringing this revolutionary bridge-building convention to life,” says Anime Reactor Executive Director James Alsup. “Anime Reactor blends fan ambitions with the essence of manga and comic book cultures.” Created for fans by fans, Anime Reactor reaches beyond current Anime trends to introduce emerging artists and premiere Japanese Anime products. Creative fan panels, seminars, and social activities make Anime Reactor attractive to both new and experienced fans. Anime and American comic book cultures influence each other, both directly and indirectly. Some of the hottest Japanese artists cite American artist styles as key influence points, and the same can be said of American artists. Anime Reactor provides fans with the opportunity to enjoy both artforms in a revolutionary approach to the “fan con.”
One of the first announced Anime Reactor guests is world-renown manga creator Kia Asamiya. “Our convention wants to provide stellar guests and programming to fans,” says Alsup. “Asamiya is one of the most popular figures in contemporary anime culture, and we are honored to have him as a confirmed guest. Many additional Japanese and American guests will be announced soon.”

Japanese Manga legend Kia Asamiya heads up new con's celebrity guest list
CHICAGO (July 4, 2002)— The newest kid on the anime block is pulling out the big guns! Anime Reactor, a premiere convention that aims to bridge Japanese Anime and American comic book cultures, has secured manga legend Kia Asamiya as its first guest.
“It is an honor to have Kia Asamiya as our first announced Anime Reactor guest,” says Anime Reactor Executive Director James Alsup. “Fans of comics and anime hold him in the highest regard. He is one of the true revolutionaries in anime, and it is appropriate for him to serve as our flagship guest.”
Kia Asamiya is one of Japan's premiere manga artists. He is internationally known for his work on the popular series Silent Mobius, Dark Angel and Steam Detectives. He continues to excite fans with his cover art for magazines and novels, as well as comic book adaptations of live-action movies, most recently, the manga version of “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.
Asamiya is also the founder of the renowned Studio Tron, and continues to publish cutting-edge manga works through various mediums. Steam Detectives, Gacha Gacha Evil-kun, and the manga version of Batman are currently published in Japan. He will share information with Anime Reactor guests about his new projects, as well as participate in fan-oriented panel sessions.
