Tokyopop appoints new Director of Licensing

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
For those that are interested in the business side of the North American Anime Industry, Tokyopop has appointed the former Director of Marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products as their new Director of Licensing.

The Director of Licensing will be responsible for sub-licensing Tokyopop licenses to 3rd party producers and manufacturers. Not the same as the person responsible for the acquisition of new licenses.

Excerpted from press release:

Los Angeles, CA (August 21, 2002) — TOKYOPOP®, the premiere manga publisher in the U.S. and a burgeoning international entertainment force, announced the appointment of Maury McIntyre to Director of Licensing. He will report to John Parker, President and COO.

McIntyre joins TOKYOPOP® with an extensive consumer products background that includes experience in the areas of property licensing, merchandising, marketing and product development. In his new position, McIntyre will be responsible for expanding upon TOKYOPOP's existing publishing and video expertise to establish the company as a leading licensor and provider of fully-branded entertainment properties. McIntyre is also charged with building, developing and increasing revenue streams of intellectual property rights through ancillary marketing, merchandising and consumer products licensing. He will focus on new TOKYOPOP® merchandising properties Stray Sheep and Initial D, as well as other upcoming properties.

“Maury McIntyre is a highly-respected licensing executive who brings a solid track record of experience and success to his new role with TOKYOPOP,” said Stuart Levy, the company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “As our company continues to grow, he will play an integral part in developing new and exciting opportunities for our continued expansion in the consumer products industry.”

McIntyre previously served as Director of Marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, where he managed the licensing and merchandising of all Fox-owned television properties, including The Simpsons, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and The X-Files. Prior to this position, McIntyre held a post in Brand Management at Applause, Inc., where he was responsible for marketing the Disney Standard Characters license.
