posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Los Angeles academic symposium open to the public.

On September 27th, the UCLA Extension Entertainment Studies Program, in collaboration with the Tokyo Foundation, will host a free symposium entitled "Entertainment Goes Pop: The Future of Anime and Manga Entertainment."

The symposium speaker list consists of several academics, anime/manga artists, and industry professionals, including Tokyopop CEO Stuart Levy, UCLA Prof. Ronald A. Morse, Tokyo Foundation Chairman Kimindo Kusaka, and others.

According to publicity materials, the objective of the symposium ranges from providing information on "the power of manga and anime as a worldwide cultural phenomenon" to informing industry professionals of "new marketing strategies and the business of manga and anime in the US."

The symposium will also serve as the opening event of a ten-week lecture/workshop course on the future of anime and manga in the global entertainment business, offered for credit in UCLA's Certificate Program in Film, Television, and Digital Entertainment Media.

Additional information on the symposium and course, including
registration guidelines, is available at www.uclaextension.edu/anime.
