Australia Fines Man for Importing Pornographic Anime

22-year-old pleads guilty after customs find child pornography anime, games

In Australia, a man has plead guilty to four charges in connection with importing anime and Japanese videogames that included child pornography and depicted scenes of sexual violence. 22-year-old Bao Peng Lim, who will be fined 9,000 Australian dollars (about US$8,000), could have been sentenced to as much as ten years in prison.

As Lim was entering Australia on a flight from Singapore in April 2006, customs officers searched Lim's luggage and found eight DVDs containing anime child pornography. A search of his house turned up another 14 DVDs. According to customs official Richard Janeczko, all images of offensive sexual conduct — including child pornography, whether actual or drawn/animated — are prohibited from being brought into the country under Australian laws such as the 1956 Customs (Prohibited Import) Regulations.
