Sengoku Basara Artist Draws Bishōnen Rice Bags

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: After sales jumped for rice bags illustrated with moe-style bishōjo characters last year, one Japanese farming town is taking an opposite tack: Gundam Seed Destiny and Sengoku Basara manga artist Chimaki Kuori is illustrating Kamo City's rice bags with a bishōnen character. The Kamo Organic Rice company began selling the "Niigata-Ken-San Koshi Hikari ~Naoe Kanetsugu Packages~" in the western Japanese province of Niigata on Wednesday. Kuori gave the ikemen bushō (handsome commander) character an armored helmet adorned with the Japanese character ai (love) — which happens to be the trademark of the samurai Naoe Kanetsugu in real-life history.
The company is aiming the rice packages at both fujoshi (otaku of boys-love materials) and rekijo (female history buffs). Kuori was born in Niigata, and she drew Kadokawa Shoten's Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny: The Edge manga and CAPCOM's Sengoku Basara 2 Groove'n Dragon manga. The rice comes in 10-kilogram (22-pound) and 5-kilogram (11-pound) bags, and both packages include an illustrated clear plastic file as a bonus.
