Alleged Akihabara Killer Sends Apology to Victim

Tomohiro Katō, the man who allegedly killed seven and injured 10 in a hit-and-run and stabbing rampage in Tokyo's otaku shopping district of Akihabara last year, sent an apology letter to one of the victims. The 23-year-old man is on trial for the incident. 55-year-old taxi driver Hiroshi Yuasa received the six-page handwritten letter via Katō's lawyer on Friday. Also enclosed was another letter from Katō's parents.
Katō wrote, "However much I repent, however much I apologize will never be enough to make things right, and since my crime deserves death 10,000 times I think I will be sentenced to death." He added that the victims' pain "must be something like the uncontrollable anger I felt when my online self was killed on the forum I spent all my time on by trolls."
Yuasa commented, "From the way he wrote so politely, you wouldn't have thought someone like that could have done such a thing. I want to hear the whole story at the trial."
