Play About Manga Café Showing in New York City

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

The Play Company, in association with the Japan Society of New York, is showing an English-translated version of Enjoy, Toshiki Okada's play about workers in a manga café. The play has been running at the 59E59 Theaters in New York City since March 27, and will run through April 25.

According to the Japan Society, the play follows "the lives and romances of 20- and 30-somethings who work part-time in a manga café in downtown Tokyo." The play was translated by Aya Ogawa, and directed by Dan Rothenberg. The translation keeps the setting in Japan and retains the Japanese names of the characters, but the characters are played by Western actors.

Tickets for the show are US$35 for the general public or US$28 for Japan Society members.
