Japanese Box Office, October 2-3

Ōoku debuts at #2; Ghibli's Karigurashi no Arrietty drops out of top 10

Umizaru: The Last Message, the third live-action film based on Shuho Sato's manga about the Japanese Coast Guard, stayed at #1 during the October 2-3 weekend. In its third weekend, the movie earned the equivalent of US$7,024,066 on 467 screens for a gross-to-date of US$56,296,245

The Lady Shogun and Her Men, the live-action film adaptation of Fumi Yoshinaga's Ōoku: The Inner Chambers manga, debuted at #2. It made US$3,573,670 on 312 screens for a gross-to-date of US$5,589,503. (The film actually opened on October 1, one day before the weekend.)

The live-action film adaptation of Karuho Shiina's Kimi ni Todoke romantic comedy manga dropped from #2 to #4 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart. In its second weekend, it added US$2,093,345 on 285 screens to its total of US$7,443,853.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer, the sequel to the two Mobile Suit Gundam 00 television series, stayed at #7 with US$666,411 on 88 screens. After its third weekend, it now has a total of US$6,897,241.

The live-action film adaptation of Harold Sakuishi's Beck manga fell from #6 to #8. In its fifth weekend, it earned US$557,702 more on 311 screens to add to its total of US$19,297,063.

Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Studio Ghibli's The Borrowers (Karigurashi no Arrietty) anime film also fell from #9 to #11 during its 12th weekend. The movie earned US$300,421 on 354 screens to add its total of US$108,796,477.
