424,000 BDs & 81,000 DVDs; 5th K-ON!! volume moves 30,000 BDs in 1st week

The K-On anime franchise has sold over 500,000 Blu-ray Discs and DVDs as of November 21. Specifically, the franchise has moved 424,000 Blu-ray volumes and 81,000 DVD volumes.

In the five days since it officially shipped on November 17, the fifth volume of the second television anime series, K-ON!!, sold 30,000 copies (rounded to the nearest thousand) on Blu-ray and 4,106 copies on DVD. That is enough to rank this volume at #2 and #14 on Oricon's overall weekly Blu-ray and DVD sales charts, respectively. Only the Predators Blu-ray & DVD Set sold more copies (37,000) this past week.

The first four volumes of K-ON!! sold 29,000, 28,000, 28,000, and 29,000 copies in their respective first week of sales.

The two television anime series adapted kakifly's K-On! four-panel comedy manga about a group of high school girls who form a band. Voices actresses Aki Toyosaki (Yui Hirasawa), Yōko Hikasa (Mio Akiyama), Satomi Satou (Ritsu Tainaka), Minako Kotobuki (Tsumugi Kotobuki), and Ayana Taketatsu (Azusa Nakano) performed as their respective characters in the anime's soundtrack and best-selling CD releases. Both the manga and the anime ended in September, but the final television episode announced that a K-On! film has been green-lit.

Bandai Entertainment announced at Anime Expo in July that it licensed the first K-On! television series, and Yen Press licensed the original manga.
