Ghibli Producer: Miyazaki's 'Yadosagashi' to Run in NY

Toshio Suzuki, the producer and former president of Studio Ghibli, revealed on Saturday that a Japanese cultural event in New York will screen studio co-founder Hayao Miyazaki's anime film short "Yadosagashi" (Looking for a Home) next year. The 2006 film follows a girl named Fuki as she embarks on a journey to find a new home. Until now, only the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo had screened this short.
Suzuki was speaking at a Saturday screening event in Tokyo to mark the December 22 release of Miyazaki's Laputa - Castle in the Sky and Isao Takahata's My Neighbors the Yamadas films on Blu-ray Disc. Akiko Yano, the composer of My Neighbors the Yamadas and "Yadosagashi," appeared at the event as well. Besides these works, Yano contributed to Miyazaki's "Mizugumo Monmon" short and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea feature.
Suzuki also noted that he is friends with Rieko Nakagawa, the author of the children's story "Kujiratori" ("The Whale Hunt"). The story inspired Miyazaki's Ghibli Museum anime short of the same name. According to the Mainichi Shimbun paper's Mantan Web site, Suzuki then indicated that there are future plans for another Nakagawa story to be made into a film. The New York International Children's Film Festival screened "Kujiratori" and another Ghibli Museum anime short from Miyazaki, "Koro's Big Day Out," in 2002.
On Wednesday, the film distributor TOHO and Ghibli announced that Miyazaki's son Goro will direct a feature film based on Chizuru Takahashi and Tetsurō Sayama's shōjo manga Kokuriko-Zaka Kara. The film will open next summer. The older Miyazaki just finished a Ghibli Museum anime short called "Pan-Dane to Tamago-Hime" ("Mr. Dough and the Egg Princess"), which premiered last month.
