Blade of the Immortal's Samura to End Halcyon Lunch

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Hiroaki Samura's manga about homeless man had been running since 2008

The 16th issue of Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine announced on Saturday that Blade of the Immortal creator Hiroaki Samura will end his Halcyon Lunch manga in the next issue in July. Samura launched the manga in the magazine's premiere issue in 2008. The story follows Gen, a 38-year-old man who loses everything and then meets a girl who will eat anything.

Samura will launch a new series titled Beagerutā in the next issue of Kodansha's Nemesis magazine, to be released on July 7. Beagerutā revolves around battles over money between three women: a "passionate psychedelic revenger" named Nami, a "china dress-wearing killing machine" named Je-Mao, and a female gang leader named Shinobu Aza.

In the same 16th issue of Good! Afternoon, artist Chieko Kobayashi and writer Seiji Uozumi resumed their Trial Ride horse-racing manga. The manga ran in the main Monthly Afternoon magazine until the July 2009 issue, when it went on hiatus due to Kobayashi's pregnancy and maternity leave. There is also a special one-shot story in the current June issue of Monthly Afternoon.

In the 17th issue of Good! Afternoon, Kon Kimura (Karan, Kobe Zaijū) will resume his Kyo-musume manga after a hiatus of about two and a half years. The comedy follows the everyday life of a huge girl who runs a yakitori shop.
