New Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai Light Novel Volume Tops Charts

7th volume sells 166,000 copies in 1st week

The seventh volume of Yomi Hirasaka's romantic comedy light novel series Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai topped Oricon's light novel chart during its first week of sales, selling 98,000 copies. The volume was released on September 22. The limited edition of the volume, which bundled a separate, all-new anime DVD, sold 68,000 copies in its first week to rank at #3 on the chart, bringing the total number of copies sold to 166,000.

In the story, Kodaka Hasegawa is a half-Japanese/half-British transfer student whose delinquent-like blonde hair scares people, while Yozora Mikazuki is a seemingly perpetually sullen girl. The two decide to form Rinjinbu, a club for people with hardly any friends.

As of earlier this month, the light novel series had sold more than 3.5 million copies. A manga adaptation of the series began serializing in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine in 2010. Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai is inspiring a television anime adaptation, which will premiere on October 6. (The show's official website is streaming a promotional video.)

The light novel series is also inspiring a video game for the PlayStation Portable. The game will be released on January 26.
