Utau! Heian-kyō to follow Heian-period aristocrats who write poetry

The official website for Square Enix's Monthly G Fantasy magazine has announced that Shin Mashiba (Nightmare Inspector: Yumekui Kenbun, Torikago Gakkyū) will launch Utau! Heian-kyō in the March issue on February 18.

The manga series will take place in Heian-kyō (a former name for Kyoto) during Japan's Heian period (794-1185). Mashiba's fantasy story will center on famous Heian aristocrats as they compete with Japanese waka poems during the peaceful period.

Mashiba's Nightmare Inspector: Yumekui Kenbun debuted in 2002, and Square Enix published nine compiled volumes. Viz Media began publishing the series in North America in 2008. Mashiba's Torikago Gakkyū began serializing in G Fantasy in 2008, and Square Enix released the manga's seventh volume in Japan in September.
