Anime on Demand Streaming Red Data Girl and Date A Live

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Two more series from the Spring season.

Anime on Demand is now streaming the opening episodes of both Red Data Girl and Date A Live. The first two parts of each series are linked from the site's front page. Like AoD's other acquisitions this season, the series are being streamed free.

Produced by P.A. Works, Red Data Girl is adapted from Noriko Ogiwara's modern fantasy novel series. The story revolves around Izumiko (voiced by Saori Hayami), a girl raised within the confines of Tamakura Shrine, one of the Kumano shrines that are part of a World Heritage site. However, it is decided that she and her childhood friend Miyuki (voiced by Kouki Uchiyama) would enroll in Hōjō High School in Tokyo. On a school trip to Tokyo, a mysterious entity known as Himegami appears and a terrible incident occurs. Izumiko's family carries a great secret that Izumiko is about to learn. Toshiya Shinohara (Black Butler, InuYasha films, The Book of Bantorra) is directing the series and Michiko Yokote (Bleach, Gintama, Princess Tutu) is handling the scripts.

Date A Live is adapted from Kōshi Tachibana's light novel series about a boy, Shidō Itsuka, who meets a spirit girl who has been rejected by a devastated world. The girl, who Shidō names "Tohka," happens to have wiped out much of humanity 30 years ago, and now she is back. The only way to stop her is to date her. Keitaro Motonaga (Getbackers, Jormungand) is directing the anime at AIC Plus+ with visual director Hisashi Saito (Haganai, Heaven's Lost Property).
