Japanese Box Office, July 6-7

Gintama, Anpanman, Ninja Kids!!! debut in top 10

The Gekijōban Gintama Kanketsu-hen: Yorozuya yo Eien Nare (Final Gintama: The Movie: Be Forever Yorozuya) film debuted at #4. The film has a brand-new story written by original manga creator Hideaki Sorachi. The main cast for the original anime is returning once again for the movie. The film earned 281,776,256 yen (US$2,821,707) on 127 screens.

Soreike! Anpanman: Tobase! Kibō no Handkerchief, the 25th Anpanman film, debuted at #5. The film's theme is "hope" and it continues the theme of cheering up those affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster. The film is screening simultaneously with the "Minna de Teasobi: Anpanman to Itazura Obake" (Playtime for Everyone: Anpanman and the Mischievous Ghost) short. The film ranked at #7 on Box Office Mojo's chart and earned 53,621,719 yen (US$536,967) on 142 screens.

Nintama Rantarō: Natsuyasumi Shukudai Daisakusen! no Dan (Ninja Kids!!! Summer Mission Impossible), the second live-action adaptation of Soubee Amako's long-running Rakudai Ninja Rantarō ninja gag manga, debuted at #8. In the film, the ninja apprentice Rantarō (Seishirō Katō) and his friends Kirimaru (Roi Hayashi) and Shinbei (Juri Shingetsu) have to reclaim the mystical Gokurakumaru sword. It is said that the wielder of Gokurakumaru shall rule the world. Box Office Mojo did not list the film on its chart.

The live-action film adaptation of Shunju Aono's Ore wa Mada Honki Dashitenai Dake (I'll Give It My All... Tomorrow) manga fell from #9 to #12 in its fourth weekend. The story centers on Shizuo, a hapless 41-year-old father of a 17-year-old girl. Shizuo dreams of being a manga creator while spending his days working at a menial part-time job. Shinichi Tsutsumi (SP series, Always: Sunset on Third Street) stars in this film from director Yūichi Fukuda (Yūsha Yoshihiko to Maō no Shiro, One-Pound Gospel, Saru Lock, The 3-Mei-sama: Anime wa Anime de Arissho!, Waimo-kun~Kiiroi Kao Shite Babanban). The acoustic guitar duo Gontiti (Nobody Knows, TO-Y, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou) is scoring the music. The film earned 12,608,716 yen (US$126,263) on 147 screens for a new total of 293,456,939 yen (US$2,938,677).

The first installment in the Ghost in the Shell Arise video anime series fell from Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart in its third weekend. Box Office Mojo has not been listing the film on its chart. Meitantei Conan: Zekkai no Private Eye (Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea), the 17th Detective Conan (Case Closed) film, fell from Box Office Mojo's chart in its 12th weekend.
