Anime Promo Video for Haruko Ichikawa's Hōseki no Kuni Manga Streamed

Humanoid "Gems" fight the "Moon People" in the manga's 1st volume shipping on July 23

Japanese publisher Kodansha began streaming a promotional anime video for Haruko Ichikawa's Hōseki no Kuni manga on Thursday. The video promotes the release of the first volume of the manga on July 23. Ichikawa oversaw the storyboard process, and Studio Hibari produced the video. (This video is only a promotional video for the manga. An anime adaptation of the manga has not been announced.)

Akiyo Ohashi directed the video, which featured animation directing and character designs by Aya Kanou. Shiori Kurata and Tomoko Minobe served as photographers and Kaoru Shirakawabe and Masaki Sakamoto served as editors. Yasuyuki Konno of Swara Production was in charge of sound effects.

The manga's story takes place in the distant future, where a new life form called "hōseki" (gems) is born. The 28 gems must fight against the "tsukijin" (moon people) who want to attack them and turn them into decorations, so each gem is assigned a role such as a fighter or a medic. Phos (Phosphophyllite) is a gem who hopes to fight the moon people, but is given no assignment until the gems' manager asks Phos to edit a natural history magazine.
