Final Fantasy XI, Agni's Philosophy, Dues Ex: Human Revolution slated for initiative that employs multiple offsite processors & servers

Video game developer Square Enix unveiled its cloud-based gaming initiative, Project Flare, on Monday. The website includes presentation materials and a video, which demonstrates the project's ability to harness multiple servers and processors online to create better graphics and more complex AI than a single console can do at home.

The presentation materials outline three project slated for Square Enix's cloud-based gaming service: Final Fantasy XI, Agni's Philosophy, and Dues Ex: Human Revolution. The project promises "Hollywood-quality animation running in real time to deepen the player's immersion, uncapping AI and physics processing to realize the extremes of realism and fantasy, and video streams allowing even existing games to be enjoyed in new ways."

Square Enix previously released videos demonstrating real-time rendering with its Luminous Studio engine under the name Agni's Philosophy. Dues Ex: Human Revolution was released for the PlayStation 3 in 2011 and a Director's Cut version shipped in North America last month, but Project Flare's version will have enhance physics modeling and graphics. Final Fantasy XI is Square Enix's first massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).

Square Enix is partnering with Ubisoft on the project and are seeking out more partners.
