Gundam: Char's Counterattack: Beltorchika's Children Gets Manga

Uroaki Sabishi, Takayuki Yanase adapt Tomino's novel with differences from anime film

Uroaki Sabishi and Takayuki Yanase will launch a manga adaptation of Yoshiyuki Tomino's Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack: Beltorchika's Children novel in the August issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Gundam Ace magazine on June 26. According to the display at this week's Shizuoka Hobby Show, "the Nightingale and Hi-Nu Gundam are finally depicted in a comic!!"

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack: Beltorchika's Children is an alternative take on the events that also form the core story of Tomino's 1988 anime film, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. (This novel actually debuted in print a month before the film.) In both, Amuro Ray and Char Aznable (the protagonist and antagonist from the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime) clash in their final confrontation.

However, the novel and the film have significant differences, such as Amuro and Char piloting Hi-Nu Gundam and Nightingale mobile suits instead of the movie's Nu Gundam and Sazabi. Yutaka Izubuchi designed both the mobile suits in the novel and the anime, and he is credited for this in the upcoming manga.

The new manga series will mark the 13th anniversary of the magazine's launch. Shizuoka Hobby Show also unveiled a Nightingale model kit that is the first entry in the new RE/100 (Reborn-One Hundred) category. The show also unveiled the Master Grade Hi-Nu Gundam Ver.Ka model kit that is debuting in August.
