Final Fantasy Franchise Gets 3 New Smartphone Apps in 2015

Final Fantasy Legends: Jikū no Suishō, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, franchise app with Triple Triad mini-game announced

Square Enix announced at its “Final Fantasy for Smartphone 2015 New Work Announcement Conference” press conference in Tokyo that it will release two new Final Fantasy games for smartphone devices sometime this winter. The games- titled Final Fantasy Legends: Jikū no Suishō (Final Fantasy Legends: Crystal of Space-Time) and Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius- will be available for both iOS and Android phones.

Takashi Tokita (Final Fantasy IV game design) will work on Jikū no Suishō (logo seen above) as general director, and Naoshi Mizuta will serve as the sound composer. The story of the game revolves around characters that have crossed space and time to come together and adventure. The staff mentioned that the concept for the game is similar to Chrono Trigger, and is supposed to give the player the nostalgia of the later days of the Super Nintendo system's games. The game's main story will be made so it is completely free to play through.

Company A-Lim is developing Brave Exvius with Square Enix's Kei Hirono as producer. The game will be an RPG where characters from past Final Fantasy games participate in battle, according to Hirono. The logo has an illustration by Yoshitaka Amano. The game will be a completely new work, and executive producer and A-Lim's Hisatoshi Hayakashi insisted that the team is developing the game so it will not be confused with A-Lim's Brave Frontier game.

The franchise will also have a new free phone app titled Final Fantasy Portal. The app will allow fans to check the newest information about the franchise, and will also have the Final Fantasy VIII game Triple Triad available to play within the app. By registering their Square Enix ID and playing Triple Triad, players can receive points that they can exchange for digital contents. Triple Triad will have cards with illustrations from characters throughout the franchise's history, including Final Fantasy VII's Barrett, Final Fantasy VIII's Seifer and Rinoa, Final Fantasy IX's Princess Garnet, and Final Fantasy XII's Vaan and Balthier. The mini-game will also be able to share cards with the Final Fantasy XIV online game. The date of release for the app has not been announced.
