FROGMAN's 1st The Rose of Versailles Parody Short Streamed

posted on by Kyle Cardine
"Channel 5.5" series has also parodied Ghost in the Shell, Lupin III, more

DLE Inc. began streaming the first animated short of FROGMAN's Rose of Versailles remake for the parody project "Channel 5.5" on Sunday. Mayo Suzukaze, who played Oscar in the stage musicals of The Rose of Versailles at the Takarazuka Revue, is reprising her role in this and upcoming shorts. Sora Amamiya plays Marie Antoinette.

The story of the short begins as Marie Antoinette does not want to be sent to France to be married. A cabinet member recommends to Marie and her mother that they send a piece of Marimo (round green alga) as a substitute, since their names are similar. Because the episode is sponsored by Calorie Mate, the cabinet member relates the situation to that of a person eating the snack, in that sending a piece of algae would be better for France anyways. The algae is sent to France and, despite everyone's confusion, is accepted as the Dauphin of France. Oscar states it is still important to protect the algae for France's future. When the people become restless because of a lack of bread, Marie Antoinette's famous line "let them eat cake" is replaced with a suggestion for photosynthesis. Over time the French Revolution beings, and the algae is brought to the guillotines for beheading. However, since the townspeople cannot locate a neck, they label the idea as "hopeless." (A pun between the Japanese slang for hopeless and a place in Hokkaido where Marimo is famous)

The rest of the fourth season of "Channel 5.5" will parody The Rose of Versailles series.

The website also began streaming a "prologue" for the fourth season.

The "Channel 5.5" project is a parody anime series that releases videos of famous manga on an irregular schedule. The story premise behind the project is a fictional television station that people can only catch if they press the "5" and "6" buttons on their remotes simultaneously. A Ghost in the Shell "remake" series was streamed in April.

FROGMAN is the "director/writer/character designer/sound Recording Engineer/Flash animator/editor/voice actor" of the Eagle Talon web series. The production company DLE Inc. and FROGMAN launched the first Himitsu Kessha Taka no Tsume (Secret Society Eagle Talon) television series in 2006, and the series spawned five films, an original video anime, and more television anime series. The sixth move, Taka no Tsume 7 Joō Heika Joboob, is slated for April 4. He already worked on Flash-animated projects for manga such as Thermae Romae, Shima Kōsaku and Lupin III.
