Date A Live Movie to Be All-New Work Next Summer

Original author Tachibana will supervise Date A Live: Mayuri Judgment

The official website for the Date A Live anime announced on Monday that the upcoming film is titled Gekijōban Date A Live: Mayuri Judgment (Date A Live the Movie: Mayuri Judgment) and will premiere summer 2015 with an original story supervised by the original light novel author Koushi Tachibana.

The staff unveiled the title and release window along with a video at Sunday's "Date A Fest II" event, which featured appearances from a number of the cast members. Nobunaga Shimazaki, the voice of Shido Itsuka, introduced a silhouette of the new title character, "Mayuri."

The first and second anime series aired in 2013 and 2014, respectively. FUNimation Entertainment licensed both anime series and describes the story:

In a world devastated by mysterious Spatial Quakes, Shidoh isn't what you'd expect in a hero. He's an average Joe who gets bossed around by his adorable little sister and mocked by the popular girls at his school. You'd definitely pick him last for dodge ball, but when it comes to saving the planet from imminent destruction, Shidoh's got one thing going for him: intergalactic hotties can't keep their hands off him! When the secret to stopping the Spatial Quakes turns out to be romancing the extraterrestrial Spirits responsible for all the chaos, Shidoh the loveable loser becomes the hero of all humanity. For every Spirit he makes out with, mankind breathes a little bit easier. Kiss the girls – save the world. That name of the game is driving the space babes crazy, and nobody does it better than Shidoh!

Keitaro Motonaga (Getbackers, Jormungand) directed both anime seasons based on Tachibana's light novels at AIC PLUS+ with visual director Hisashi Saito (Haganai, Heaven's Lost Property). Hideki Shirane (Hayate the Combat Butler, Queen's Blade: Rebellion) was charge of the series scripts, and Takaaki Suzuki (Strike Witches, Last Exile) advised on the world setting, as he has done other anime and manga. Satoshi Ishino (Excel Saga, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu) designed the characters based on Tsunako's original novel illustrations. Mika Akitaka (Martian Successor Nadesico, Galaxy Fraulein Yuna) designed the mecha, and Go Sakabe (Gosick theme songs) scored the soundtrack with sound director Yasunori Ebina (A Certain Magical Index, Naruto) at Nippon Columbia.
