2015 Dragon Ball Film's Gohan Character Sketch Revealed

posted on by Sarah Nelkin

The February 2015 issue of Shueisha's V Jump magazine is revealing on Saturday the character design for Son Gohan in the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Fukkatsu no F (Dragon Ball Z: F Is For Fukkatsu, or 'resurrection') film.

The magazine lists that Gohan's normal fighting clothes are nowhere to be seen, and instead, he will fight in a green athletic suit. The magazine also makes a note next to Gohan's normal attire, saying, "Since Beerusu arrived, it appears Gohan's fashion has calmed down a bit! Maybe he quit being Stupid... I mean, Great Saiyaman?"

The website for the film also lists the cast, although no character names are attached:

Masako Nozawa
Ryūsei Nakao
Kouichi Yamadera
Masakazu Morita
Ryō Horikawa
Masaharu Satou
Hiromi Tsuru
Mayumi Tanaka
Toshio Furukawa
Takeshi Kusao
Hikaru Midorikawa
Yūko Minaguchi

Although Yūko Minaguchi played the role of Videl in the original Dragon Ball Z anime, she was replaced by Shino Kakinuma in the second season of Dragon Ball Z Kai.

The website also features an updated list of staff:

Director: Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Scripts: Akira Toriyama
Character Design: Akira Toriyama
Color Key: Teppei Hotta
CG Director: Kai Makino
Director of Photography: Yousuke Motoki
Production Manager: Kazumi Fujioka
Special Effects: Naotake Oota
Animation Director: Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Music: Norihito Sumitomo
Distributor: Toei Animation
Distribution Assistance: 20th Century Fox Japan

Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump describes the story:

An Earth where peace has arrived. However, remnants of Frieza's army Sorbet and Tagoma (from the Japanese word for 'egg') arrive on the planet. Their goal is to revive Frieza with the dragon balls. Their dastardly wish is granted, the "F" that plans its revenge against the Saiyans is revived...!

Dragon Ball manga creator Akira Toriyama is personally credited with the original concept, screenplay and character designs of the new movie "that the entire universe eagerly awaits!!" Dragon Ball Z animation director Tadayoshi Yamamuro will direct the new movie.

People who buy advance tickets for the film will receive an exclusive earphone jack strap of either Goku or Frieza modeled by Toriyama. Regular advance tickets cost 1,400 yen (about US$12), middle and elementary school student tickets cost 800 yen (US$7), and pair tickets cost 2,100 yen (US$17). Special movie ticket cards are on sale now.

The film will star two original characters designed by Toriyama himself: Sorbet (seen above-left) and Tagoma (above-right). The characters are the survivors of the Frieza army and his servants.

The new film, like last year's Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, will tell a new story.

The film will premiere in both 2D and 3D in theaters across Japan on April 18.
