Mikako Komatsu, PASSPO idol Ai Negishi, Yuichi Umehara star in April stage reading x play

The theatrical group Team Catmint announced on Monday that they are holding a stage play adaptation of Voices of a Distant Star, the 2002 anime by Makoto Shinkai (The Place Promised in Our Early Days, 5 Centimeters Per Second, Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below, The Garden of Words). The "stage reading x play" will run from April 23 to April 27 at Tokyo's CBGK Shibugeki theater.

Voice actress Mikako Komatsu will star in the April 24-25 performances, while the PASSPO idol group's Ai Negishi will star in the April 23 and 27 performances. Yuichiro Umehara will also appear on April 24, alternating in a role with Masahiro Inoue (April 26-27) and Takuya Kawaharada (April 23, April 25). Team Catmint's Chisato Haida is writing and directing the production, and Shinkai's frequent collaborator Tenmon is returning from the original anime to contribute the soundtrack.

ADV Films released the anime on DVD in North America, and Anime Limited licensed it on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in the United Kingdom.

Shinkai reported on New Year's Eve that he was drawing storyboards for a new film. He added that he wants to make a work that is more enjoyable, more beautiful, and more further beyond any work he has made so far.
