Mari Ozawa's Gin no Spoon Manga Gets Live-Action Drama

Japanese sport and entertainment news website Sanspo reported on Friday that Japanese actor Mahiro Takasugi will star in an upcoming live-action drama adaptation of Mari Ozawa's Gin no Spoon (Silver Spoon; no connection to the Hiromu Arakawa manga with a similar name) manga. The 18-year old Takasugi will play the role of the main character, Ritsu, while actress Yasuko Tomita will play the role of his mother, Kyōko. The drama's title will be Ashita mo Kitto, Oishii Gohan ~Gin no Spoon~ (Tomorrow There Will Also Surely Be Delicious Meals ~Silver Spoon).
Takasugi previously starred as Mitsuzane Kureshima in Kamen Rider Gaim. He stated that he needed to learn how to cook for his role in Gin no Spoon, and had to begin with the basics of slicing vegetables.
The original Gin no Spoon manga's story centers around Ritsu, a high school boy who, along with his younger brother Shirabe and sister Kanade, were raised by their single mother Kyōko. When their mother is hospitalized due to sickness, Ritsu begins to take care of his younger siblings and cook food for them, slowly entering the world of cooking. Things become more complicated when Ritsu finds out a shocking fact: that he is an adopted child.
Mari Ozawa (Papa no Sagashimono, Tanpopo no Watage, Easy Writer) launched the manga in Kodansha's Kiss magazine in 2010, and Kodansha will publish the manga's 11th compiled book volume on April 13.
The live-action afternoon drama adaptation will premiere on Fuji TV on June 1, and it will air on Mondays-Fridays at 1:25 p.m.
