SoniAni: Super Sonico the Animation

Super Sonico (Nico to her friends) is a 18-year-old college student who in-between her college studies and helping as a waitress at her grandmother's bar also models for pin-ups and is the lead guitarist for the three-girl band Fastest Speed in Space! (Daiichi Uchū Sokudo). When her two best friends and band-mates, Suzu Fujimi and Fuuri Watanuki, are late to a concert it forces Sonico to play, a concert that will continue to have consequences for Sonico.

Super Sonico is the mascot girl of the "Nitro Super Sonic" music festival events held by Nitroplus. Super Sonico has been spun into a cross-media empire with Sonico and her ever-present headphones inspiring her own line of games as well as figures including a giant 1/2-scale statue. Super Sonico also appeared in Namco Bandai Games' Super Heroine Chronicle for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita systems and even in a promotion for THQ's Saints Row: The Third game.

SoniAni: Super Sonico the Animation was directed by Kenichi Kawamura at Studio White FOX (Steins;Gate, Katanagatari, The Devil Is a Part-Timer!). Yousuke Kuroda wrote the scripts and Masafumi Tamura designed the characters. Super Sonico is credited with playing herself in the Japanese version and performing the opening theme song "Beat goes on!" while the Fastest Speed in Space band performs the anime's ending theme song.

SoniAni's dub includes cosplayer Jessica Nigri voicing Sonico as her Anime voice acting debut.

“I always felt a connection with Sonico. She's just got such a positive and genuine spirit about her that when they asked me about playing the part, I squealed with joy! It's like my dream was finally coming true. Being here with my Sentai family has been surreal.” - Nigri commenting on her enthusiasm for the role.

Nigri previously voiced Cinder Fall in seven episodes of the RWBY animated series.

The only other revealed dub cast member is Luci Christian (Nagisa Motomiya in AKB0048, Nami in One Piece, too many roles to list) who will be voicing Sonico's best friend, Suzu Fujimi.

SoniAni: Super Sonico the Animation premiered on January 6 2014 in Japan and ran for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan and Sentai Filmworks licensed the anime last year. The complete collection will be released by Sentai Filmworks in North America on home video in May. MVM will release the series in UK later in June.
