Uchōten Kazoku Manga to End in Next Chapter

posted on by Kiara Valdez
Manga adapts comedy novel that also inspired 2013's The Eccentric Family TV anime

The 24th chapter of Yū Okada, Kōji Kumeta, and Tomihiko Morimi's Uchōten Kazoku manga (pictured at right) has revealed that the manga will end in the 25th chapter.

Okada also confirmed the news on April 29 on his Twitter account.

The Tweet says, "Today the Denshi Birz website opens! You can read the first, 23rd, and 24th chapters of "Uchōten Kazoku" there. Additionally, the next chapter, the 25th chapter, will be the final one. Thank you for your support!"

The manga is based on Morimi's (The Tatami Galaxy) original novel of the same name. Kōji Kumeta (Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei, Joshiraku) provided the original character designs for the manga and the 2013 anime adaptation.

Okada launched the manga in Gentosha's Comic Birz magazine in the June 2013 issue, and Gentosha published the third compiled volume on November 21.

The comedy drama of Uchōten Kazoku is set in Kyoto, where tanuki (shape-shifting raccoon-dogs), tengu (long-nosed goblins of Japanese folklore), and humans intermingle. The story follows the tanuki Shimogamo Yasaburō, the third son of the Shimogamo family who live in the Tadasu no Mori forest of Shimogamo Shrine. One day, Yasaburō's father is eaten as a hot pot by human members of a group known as the "Friday Club." As Yasaburō takes care of his teacher, an old tengu, fights with other tanukis, and plays with a psychic human girl, Yasaburō approaches the truth about his father's death.

The original novel inspired a television anime adaptation by the same name in 2013. Crunchyroll streamed the anime under the title The Eccentric Family, and NIS America released the series on Blu-ray Disc in January.
