Makura no Danshi 'Pillow Boys' Anime Unveils Cast, July 13 Premiere

posted on by Egan Loo

The official website for the Makura no Danshi (Pillow Boys) television anime announced additional cast members, the opening theme song, and the premiere date on Thursday. Joining Natsuki Hanae in the cast are Yuichiro Umehara, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Daisuke Namikawa, Nobunaga Shimazaki, Shinnosuke Tachibana, Kōsuke Toriumi, Yoshimasa Hosoya, Ayumu Murase, Daisuke Kishio, and Sora Takahata.

The character Merry, as voiced by Hanae, will sing the opening theme song "Makura no Danshi." Masayoshi Ōishi (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun's "Kimi Janakya Dame Mitai") wrote the music and lyrics of the "cheerful pop melody," and arranged the song. The series will premiere on Tokyo MX, Sun TV, and other stations on July 13.

The teaser image below, from left to right, features a "stall vender boy, chūni [adolescent delusion] boy, dialect boy, cherub boy, sempai boy, pillow boy, music boy, flower arrangement boys, astronomy boy, ria-jū [living the real life] boy, and librarian boy."

The anime promises a "new and novel 'sleeping side-by-side' experience entirely in the first-person perspective" to "heal tired hearts." It will feature 12 "Makura no Danshi" (pillow boys), all full of distinctly individual personalities and each catering to viewers who like a certain "type." The boys all live in the same town underneath a starry sky. Each of the "Makura no Danshi" will star his own weekly episode as they "sleep beside you and whisper."

Yuniko Ayana (Kinmoza! Kiniro + Mosaic, Futsū no Joshikōsei ga Locodol Yattemita) and Ayumi Sekine (scripts on Inari Kon Kon, WATAMOTE) are writing the scenario, and Mika Yamamoto (Tiger & Bunny The Movie -The Rising-, Sengoku Basara 4's alternate costume designs) designed the characters. Assez Finaud Fabric and feel. (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO!, Futsū no Joshikōsei ga Locodol Yattemita, Minami-ke Tadaima) are producing the anime for Earth Star Entertainment.
