Comic-Con International awarded an Inkpot Award to Yu-Gi-Oh! manga artist Kazuki Takahashi this past weekend. The award recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions to comics, science fiction and fantasy, film, television, animation, and fandom.

"I am deeply honored to receive Comic-Con's Inkpot Award and am humbled to be held in the same regard as the revered animators, authors, filmmakers and artists that have been recognized for their passion and contributions to the arts," said Takahashi in 4K Media's press release.

Takahashi was a guest at this year's convention. He participated in a Q&A and live drawing panel where he revealed more details on the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! film.

Takahashi's Yu-Gi-Oh! manga ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1996 to 2004. The manga launched an international hit franchise that continues to this day with card games, anime, toys, and newer manga series. The latest anime, Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, premiered in Japan last spring and is set to debut internationally this year.

Past Inkpot Award winners include Osamu Tezuka, Robotech's Carl Macek, Lupin III's Monkey Punch, Ranma 1/2's Rumiko Takahashi, Crying Freeman's Ryōichi Ikegami and Kazuo Koike, Sailor Moon's Naoko Takeuchi, Usagi Yojimbo's Stan Sakai, Silent Service's Kaiji Kawaguchi, Bleach's Tite Kubo, shōjo manga pioneer Moto Hagio, Domo-kun creator Tsuneo Goda, and Hayao Miyazaki.
