1st anime characters to accomplish feat since K-ON!; "SUNNY DAY SONG" also sets franchise sales record

"SUNNY DAY SONG"/"?←Heartbeat," the July 8 CD single with two insert songs from Love Live! The School Idol Movie, sold about 86,000 copies in its first week of sales. It ranked #2 on Oricon's singles ranking chart for the July 6-12 week. It has topped the franchise record for the single or album with the most copies sold in its first week, and it also tied the franchise record for the single with the highest sales ranking.

The single is the second of three weekly singles with insert songs from the movie. It features "SUNNY DAY SONG" by the anime's nine-girl idol group μ's and "?←HEARTBEAT" by the group's three third-year students — Yoshino Nanjō as Eli Ayase, Aina Kusuda as Nozomi Tojo, and Sora Tokui as Nico Yazawa.

Lantis released the first of the weekly singles, "Angelic Angel," on July 1. That single contains the songs "Angelic Angel," and "Hello, Hoshi o Kazoete" (Hello, Count the Stars). The single sold 17,000 copies in its second week (for a current total of 99,954 copies), and went down from its #2 slot last week to #5 this week.

The μ's idols are the first in-anime characters to have two singles on the weekly top 5 chart at the same time since the K-ON! anime's Ho-kago Tea Time band did so in December 2011. Ho-kago Tea Time accomplished this feat with their "Unmei wa Endless" (Fate is Endless) and "Singing!" CD singles for the K-ON! film.

The third of the Love Live! film's weekly CD singles debuts on Wednesday with "Boku-tachi wa Hitotsu no Hikari" (We Are A Single Light) by μ's and "Future style" by the three second-year students.

The Recording Industry Association of Japan certified μ's' Best Album Best Live Collection II album as gold in June.

The film topped the Japanese box office for tickets sold for its first three weeks in theaters since June 13. As of its 23rd day in theaters on July 5, it has sold over one million tickets to earn over 1.4 billion yen (about US$11.4 million).

The film will premiere in select cities in the United States on September 12. The film will also screen in Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, and Indonesia.
