Comic Earth Star began streaming the first episode from the Makura no Danshi (Pillow Boys) television anime series on Wednesday.

In the first episode, the pillow boy Merry offers to give the viewer a massage. He asks where the viewer wants to be massaged, including asking if they need a butt rub. He then gets embarassed, saying that he is not perverted, but he knows that area gets tired as well.

Merry then proceeds talk about his day alone. He met a cat that visited the apartment, and saw the orange sunset. It made him think about the viewer and why they were not by his side. He then proceeds to ask the viewer about their day, then beckoning the viewer to come closer, relax, and hug him tight so that they will not have bad dreams when they fall asleep.

The anime promises a "new and novel 'sleeping side-by-side' experience entirely in the first-person perspective" to "heal tired hearts." It features 12 "Makura no Danshi" (pillow boys), all full of distinctly individual personalities and each catering to viewers who like a certain "type." The boys all live in the same town underneath a starry sky. Each of the "Makura no Danshi" will star his own weekly episode as they "sleep beside you and whisper."

Kiniro + Mosaic, Futsū no Joshikōsei ga Locodol Yattemita) and Ayumi Sekine (scripts on Inari Kon Kon, WATAMOTE) are writing the scenario, and Mika Yamamoto (Tiger & Bunny The Movie -The Rising-, Sengoku Basara 4's alternate costume designs) designed the characters. Assez Finaud Fabric and feel. (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO!, Futsū no Joshikōsei ga Locodol Yattemita, Minami-ke Tadaima) are producing the anime for Earth Star Entertainment.

The character Merry, as voiced by Hanae, sings the opening theme song "Makura no Danshi." Masayoshi Ōishi (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun's "Kimi Janakya Dame Mitai") wrote the music and lyrics of the "cheerful pop melody," and arranged the song.
