Boruto: Naruto the Movie's New Manga One-Shot Previewed

posted on by Egan Loo
Cast & creator's greetings before midnight screenings, New Konoha Times handout also revealed

The Comic Natalie website posted an excerpt from Naruto Hiden Zai no Sho Official Movie Book, the bonus booklet offered to people who watch Boruto -Naruto the Movie- next month. While supplies last, participating theaters will give away two million copies to audience members.

The book debuts the manga short "Naruto ga Hokage ni Natta Hi" (The Day Naruto Became a Hokage) that original manga creator Masashi Kishimoto personally drew. The story episode did not appear in the main Naruto manga's original run. In the previewed excerpt, Kakashi presents Naruto Uzumaki as the Seventh Hokage to the masses in a ceremony.

The book also includes the main manga series' 700th and final chapter in full color.

On Friday, August 6 at 11:30 p.m., participating theaters will stream a live stage greeting by Kishimoto and the voice cast members for Boruto, Naruto, Sarada, Sakura, Shikadai, and Shikamaru. These theaters will then be among the first to screen the film itself at midnight on Saturday, August 7.

Theaters are also distributing a New Konoha Times handout to promote the movie:

Boruto -Naruto the Movie-, the upcoming film sequel to the Naruto manga and The Last -Naruto the Movie-, will open on August 7.

Weekly Shonen Jump describes the story of the new film as follows (Note: the below summary contains spoilers for those who have not finished reading the manga):

Boruto is the son of the seventh Hokage Naruto who completely rejects his father. Behind this, he has feelings of wanting to surpass Naruto, who is respected as a hero. He ends up meeting his father's friend Sasuke, and requests to become... his apprentice!? The curtain rises on the story of the new generation written by Masashi Kishimoto!

The previously revealed cast include:

  • Ryūichi Kijima as Mitsuki
  • Atsushi Abe as Inojin Yamanaka, the son of Sai and Ino
  • Saori Hayami as Himawari Uzumaki, the daughter of Naruto and Hinata
  • Hiroki Yasumoto as Kinshiki, the obedient subordinate of the mysterious man Momoshiki
  • Kensho Ono as Shikadai Nara, the son of Shikamaru Nara and Temari
  • Daisuke Namikawa as Momoshiki
  • Chie Nakamura as Sakura Uchiha
  • Satoshi Hino as Sai
  • Yoichi Masukawa as Rock Lee
  • Hidenori Takahashi as Konohamaru Sarutobi
  • Nana Mizuki as Hinata Uzumaki
  • Showtaro Morikubo as Shikamaru Nara

  • Kouki Miyata as Chōjūrō (Mizukage)
  • Ryota Takeuchi as Darui (Raikage)
  • Akira Ishida as Gaara (Kazekage)

Yuko Sanpei is playing Boruto (pictured top left in image below) and Kokoro Kikuchi is playing Sarada (pictured top right). Junko Takeuchi is returning to play Naruto Uzumaki, and Noriaki Sugiyama is returning to play Sasuke Uchiha.

Weekly Shonen Jump also revealed that the film will feature the Chunin Exams with the new generation. Boruto's three-member squad, the new "InoShikaChō," and Genin from other villages will all participate.

Original Naruto manga creator Masashi Kishimoto is credited with the original story, script, and character designs, as well as the chief production supervisor, for the film. Hiroyuki Yamashita (Naruto Shippūden episode director, Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie animation director) is directing the film, and Ukyō Kodachi (Chaos Dragon, Neppu Kairiku Bushi Road) is collaborating with Kishimoto on the script.

The rock band Kana-Boon is contributing their "Diver" song as the theme song, after contributing their "Silhouette" single as the opening theme of the Naruto Shippūden television anime

The film will open in Japanese theaters on August 7, and tickets went on sale on June 27. Theatergoers are able to choose one of two fans designed by Masashi Kishimoto as a special gift. The "Uzumaki Version" features Naruto and Boruto and the "Uchiha Version" features Sasuke and Sarada. The fans are limited to 100,000 units.

Viz Media has licensed the film for an English-subtitled release in North American theaters starting October 10.
